Young Entrepreneur takes off during a difficult time
Hawk Pumps has partnered with Happy Clean Car Wash in furthering the company’s reach and offering.
Headed by the dynamic Sibongiseni Khoza, the company comes to corporates and groups of individuals to provide a cleaning services from car washing to Happy Clean deep cleaning services including cleaning roofs, walls and pavements – a fantastic solution during these times.
Sibongiseni’s entrepreneurial journey started when he was in grade one where he sold fried fish made by his mother. He did this until he was in grade seven where he then started selling juice and ice cream at the local taxi rank. However, when he got to high school Sibongiseni did not have time to sell during the week as he had karate classes, so he started washing cars at his cousin’s barbershop on weekends. After high school, he went to further his studies at the Durban University of Technology where he washed his teacher’s cars for extra money and that was the birth of his car was business, Happy Clean Car Wash.
Happy Clean Car Wash is a Durban-based car wash that currently has eight employees and operates as a stationary car wash as well as a mobile car wash, where the team moves around to different establishments to wash cars. Sibongiseni says that he applied for financing from the NYDA (National Youth Development Agency) to expand his service offering. He received a voucher from the NYDA which he wanted to use to get a multipurpose mini cleaning trailer that would help with his car wash business.
Sibongiseni started researching on companies that made these trailers and Hawk stood out for him. He approached Hawk for a mini trailer. Melanie Mokawem, Director at Hawk saw the passion and drive in Sbo and wanted to join forces. Resulting in Sbo acquiring a professional trailer as well as a business, website and marketing assistance. “This was a dream come true for me as I was now able to take my business to the next level. Hawk helped bring my vision to reality and also market my business which is exactly what any entrepreneur needs to kickstart the business. I do part-time fitness and as part of giving back to the community, I decided to train the first-year students at the Durban University of Technology for free. While doing this, I discovered that some of the students had a passion for business and entrepreneurship which has resulted in me being their mentor,” says Sibongiseni.
“My vision is to be considered as one of the finest entrepreneurs. I have had opportunities to speak to entrepreneurs at conferences and workshops all over the world and that showed me that I can be the best version of myself. One of my objectives is to help create jobs and open up the industry to people in the township,” adds Sibongiseni.
Happy Clean Car Wash now offers deep cleaning services which include cleaning roofs, walls, and pavements. When COVID-19 hit, the stationary car wash site closed as the site where they operated from wanted the space for another business, which resulted in fewer cars needing to be washed. However, the upside was that Happy Clean Car Wash had more mobile requests from people wanting their cars washed at home or at the office premises. Clients also asked for deep cleaning services in their offices which helped extend the business offering as it could now offer this service. The business also now manufactures its own cleaning products.
