A new website, aimed at helping curb the stolen vehicle problem in South Africa, has been launched by Karl Tomaschko. The site, www.stolenvehicles.co.za, helps both victims of a vehicle theft, as well as used car buyers in pinpointing and avoiding vehicles that are potentially stolen in the used car market.
As Tomaschko explains: “Currently, to find out whether a vehicle is stolen or not, is a lengthy process and will most likely incur some costs. With this website we would like to create the biggest database of stolen vehicles in South Africa, making it completely free to add and search for information.”
It works by allowing an owner who's vehicle has been stolen to add it to the database and allowing a person in the market for a second-hand vehicle to do a quick check if the car/motorcycle/truck they are about to buy is stolen or not. If a stolen vehicle is found via the website, the person can send a quick message to the owner notifying them of the location. In the future it will also provide statistics on the number of vehicles stolen in South Africa by province, vehicle type etc.
