NAACAM Show 2019 to showcase 1000+ localisable components

The recently announced South African Automotive Masterplan (SAAM) has increasing local content levels in the automotive value chain from 38% to 60% as one of its central objectives, the achievement of which is considered to be key to driving job creation and creating opportunities for new entrant development.

The NAACAM Show 2019 – which will be taking place in March - is strategically aligned to the SAAM, with localisation and transformation providing a framework for the various activities at the event. Exhibitors are encouraged to display localisation opportunities at their stand. In addition to this, the NAACAM Show will also incorporate a localisation exhibition, which is envisaged as being a significant drawcard to, focus of, and value creator by the event. 

Held within the exhibition area, the localisation exhibition will provide OEMs and Tier 1s which are exhibiting at the event, with additional opportunities to display components that are currently imported but could be localised. Participation by all OEMs and 20 Tier 1s will be catered for, with approximately 100 components per OEM and 50 components per Tier 1 displayed. 1 000+ localisable components are anticipated in the display1.

Participation is free to exhibitors of parts already exhibiting at the NAACAM Show 2019. The localisation exhibition2will be managed by NAACAM Show staff3. Firm participation is welcome. Each exhibitor will supply a list of the parts displayed and labelled4as below:

  • Firm name 

  • Part name

  • Part number

  • Annual volume


Visitors to the localisation exhibition will express their interest in certain components which will be passed to the exhibiting firm post the event for further engagements.


Other planned activities at the event which are framed by the localisation and transformation objective are:

  • A growth-oriented conference programme delivered by 50+ C-suite executives

  • Pre-scheduled buyer-supplier linkage meetings to connect buyers with suppliers that can feed into their supply chain

  1. Our objective, subject to uptake by firms. OEMs, ASCCI supported firms and specifically firms in the 3 priority value chains identified of seating systems, interior trim and drive train will be prioritised
  2. A four-shelf display system to be used: 914mm x 610mm surface area per shelf (weight bearing of 100kg per shelf). 20 parts on average per display estimated. Racks with larger surface area and/or greater weight bearing capacity can be arranged. NAACAM Show staff to be briefed by OEM/ tier 1 staff
  3. OEM/tier displays to be set up on 12 March 2019 from 9am-12pm. Labour will be available to support the display of parts. Parts will be packed and returned to all suppliers by 19 March 2019. Cotton gloves to be given to all participants
  4. A standard template and labels will be shared with all participants.
