MANN+HUMMEL opens South African production facility
MANN+HUMMEL, the leading filtration specialists, proudly revealed the latest addition to their worldwide manufacturing network, a brand-new production facility in Kempton Park, Johannesburg. In its initial phase, the 3200 square-meters facility will be the epicenter of MANN+HUMMEL’s supply to the local commercial vehicle, passenger car and off highway and industrial aftermarket industries.
This manufacturing hub for Southern Africa is the culmination of a project that started in 2016 after MANN+HUMMEL identified South Africa, the largest automotive market on the continent of Africa, as the suitable location to establish roots in Africa. Initially opening a Sales Office which was followed by an Aftermarket Distribution Center serving southern Africa.
The clear vision to manufacture in Africa has now been realized with the opening of the manufacturing plant in Johannesburg. The facility will serve as a strategic hub for sub-Saharan African market as it lays the groundwork for further expansion into Africa. Local production will allow MANN+HUMMEL to strengthen its position as an industry leader throughout the region. “This plant in South Africa is a key milestone in MANN+HUMMEL Africa’s business growth strategy and this investment shows our clear commitment to supporting our customers in this market” said Kurk Wilks, President & CEO of MANN+HUMMEL, at the opening ceremony. “Aligned with our ‘in the region, for the region’ approach, regional production of our products offers our customers more competitive and responsive choices offering more value to their customers”.

The facility will be responsible for producing high-performance Air and Cabin filters for commercial vehicles, passenger cars and off highway and industrial vehicles. Modern technology incorporating quick change tooling will allow for short run production. Solar power will be used extensively in the day-to-day operations of the plant, in line with the company’s green initiatives and staying with the company’s sustainable production ethos, it will also employ the 3R initiatives: reduce, re-use and recycle to ensure minimal environmental impact.
