Africa is on the move
Africa is the next best story about economic growth because Africa is on the move. "We want to sell and to produce to the World. Now is our chance to establish Africa as a key industrial producer source," says President Cyril Ramaphosa.
He addressed the delegates from the United States-Sub-Saharan African Trade and Economic Cooperation Forum (AGOA Forum) at Nasrec in Johannesburg. According to him the forum is needed to make sure that policy creates work. A more targeted effort is needed to create more focussed investments. " Africa wants to produce finished products and wants to earn the full value of those products. We value our relationship with the United States of America - the worlds’ largest trade market. We realise so much more can be done to benefit Africa's 45 countries and its 1,3 billion people," says Ramaphosa.
Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Ebrahim Patel, says Africa holds 17% of the world’s population, but is only responsible for 3% of the global trade. "We need to manufacture more and we need to trade more. We can change the legacy of the colonial period. History is shaped by us."
#MISA, the Motor Industry Staff Association, is attending the Forum as part of a delegation of our affiliated trade union Federation, #FEDUSA.
